    An odd quirk of history

Did you know that Edward Boxer was a British Ordinance officer who's primer design was adopted by the U.S. and Hiram Berdan was an American ordinance officer who's primer design was adopted by Europe and the rest of the world for that matter?

    Also this day in history:

1610 - Henry Hudson of Englandicon discovers a great bay on the east coast of Canadaicon and names it for himself.

1692 - Frenchicon forces under Marshal Luxembourg defeat the English at the Battle of Steenkerque in the Netherlands.

1864 - Federal gunboats attack but do not capture Fort Gains, at the mouth of Mobile Bay, Alabama.

1914 - Germanyicon declares war on France.

1945 - Chinese troops under an American general captured a Japaneseicon town called Myitkyina.

1958 - The first nuclear submarine, U.S.iconNautilus, passes under the North Pole.

1990 - The US commits naval forces to the Persian Gulf region in the wake of Iraq's invasion of Kuwait.
