Those of us who have medals realise, after some time of not having the opportunity to wear them, that they mean something only to those who also have medals. And some time later, they just lie around in a box or drawer gathering dust. At that stage you realise they have to go to somebody who will appreciate them or they will be 'disposed of' after you pass away. After you pass away it doesn't matter to you what happens to them anymore, so decide early on how to handle their 'disposal' to the advantage of your family, regiment, museum, etc. In this case these medals will mean something to the buyer, even if only bragging rights, and more to the seller, who will be able to live better with the proceeds.
Parting with them is never easy, I worked damn hard for those I have, but right now they are of academic interest to most and sentimental value to my immediate family only. Mounted them in a display case for my son.
