Repro or not that's a beautiful stock. I wouldn't ruin it either with some Fake Stampings.
For years now I've taken a rolled up backpacking bed mat I use on the shooting bench or as a ground mat. Even if I have shooter stocks on I try my best to take care of them. No shame in looking good.
My $10 to your $1 that you placed it gently on Ike's chair so you wouldn't scratch it for picture day.

I replied (copied below) about 11-1/2 years ago, in a post by David Barnett when he was pointing out the best Repro Rock Ola Cartouche we had seen. Seller was S-T-B on GB. Carbine was a Rock Ola with a mix of reparked GI parts, Repro parts and reproduction stock with the Rock Ola Stampings. They skirted around the description by not calling it Original, but you'd of thought it was the way their listings read. Most know what I mean.
It fetched $3500 in 2009. Those Stampings can blind guys to what's really under the hood.

"IMO,
A stock is ruined once a Repro/Faked Stamp is applied.
We know many were lightly stamped and easily wore off with general wear and tear.
Others sanded off when rack numbers were applied.
Repro parts can be replaced......but that nice piece of old growth walnut is ruined for life.
Are we also at the stage where Replica Stamps are acceptable?

I circled the wagons and have kept my eyes open on the lookout for Fakes just a few months after getting in to this hobby. We call it a hobby but doesn't take long until you can call them Investments. These Repro/Fake parts and markings are becoming the norm and will soon out number real originals. If they haven't already and will continue as values go up.
Maybe until collectors stop parts swapping.
But most of you already know this.

With all this said, I'm guilty of knowingly buying a Fake Type II barrel band we used to rig up a sling on a friends Grandson's 28 gauge. And have purchased 2 replacement Swivels with screws for Type I bands to replace lost ones from Northridge.
