Russia's 331st parachute regiment take a battering

The 331st Guards Parachute Regiment had high hopes of being the first unit to come out of this awful war in glory, but now represents the disintegration of Russia’s plan for a quick war.

The 331st regiment’s commanding officer, Col Sergei Sukharev, was killed in Ukraine on 13 March 2022, and was posthumously awarded the Hero of the Russian Federation medal.

At his funeral, deputy defence minister Gen Yuri Sadovenko said the colonel “lived for the future, for the future of our people, a future without Nazism”.

The BBC leads that from reliable sources over 39 soldiers of the elite 331st regiment have died.

The parachute regiment were part of a column that advanced into Ukraine from Belarus, led by these Russian airborne forces, known by the acronym VDV, with V not Z marked on their vehicles, with their objective being the capital, Kyiv.

It will be intersting to evaluate the most effective weapon at the end of these hostilities, but clearly the Turkish drone hase proved highly effective when you watch the footage of the convoy being hit as they massed together in a small town on the approach to Kyiv.

Sad to see Slav fighting Slav many related for what is a senseless war!
