Seeing the US mission to the southern pole of the moon land yesterday reminded me of when the US and SovietUnion both sent space craft that met each other in space in 1975. I remember being glued to the television for what seemed like hours while the astronauts attempted to get the hatch open so that the US and Soviet Union could actually meet in space and have that handshake.
Because it was 1975 and I was still a child at the time I was subject to my mother's "bedtime orders". So having been glued to the television for what seemed like hours waiting for the hatch to open, like an expectant father, just at the critical moment my mother came into the room and announced "BEDTIME". Having missed the most important part of the mission, the opening of the hatch, thanks to my mother, I asked my gran for a verbal description of the event, the hatch opening, the following day.
