I worked with a guy who used one in Nam... he was in a tree scanning across a paddy when BANG, a round hit the IR projector and knocked him out of the tree! Evidently the Charlie across the way had a Russian Dragunov with an IR detector. Fortunately, the dope shot at the light source instead of slightly low and right (from his point of view) so missed the shooter.... who never used it again.
