There's still confusion to this day over the rimmed .303 Savage produced in 1895 and the rimless .300 Savage produced a quarter of a century later. Both fire .308" bullets but the less powerful .303 Savage was a failed attempt by Savage to produce a military cartridge. Savage 99 rifles were/are very popular in Canadaand over the years I owned three of them: a .22 Savage High Power, a .300 Savage, and a .284 Winchester. I took a lot of game with the .284 and enjoyed it and other lever action rifles due to also being right-handed but left-eye dominant.
