Today I went to my gun shop to pick up my new Ghost holster for the Walther PDP.
The armourer saw me and started: today I’ll sell you a new gat. Wanna bet?
1st mistake from my side: let’s see, what do you have?
He starts bringing out milsurps.
A wonderful MAS 49/56, like new. Then a Steyr 88, a Steyr 95 in original caliber, an Ishapore Enfield in .308, No. 5 Jungle Carbine… Then he came out with a Carcano 38 saying “this one is really pretty rare. It is in 8 Mauser.”
Hands it to me and I see it is in 7,35x51 and tell him. He goes immediately “oh crap, picked up the wrong one. Let me go fetch it”. But I told him I wanted to see this one.
All woods pretty banged, some arsenal repairs, gorgeous patina, 1939 or XVII. I liked it. Then I looked at he bore… OMG!!!
Almost as new.
I told him to write all papers and asked about the price… and it was by far the cheapest, at 380€.
We checked, together with the gun shop owner, all markings, and they are all ok.
Unfortunately, they had nor ammo, nor dies and bullets.
I’ll wait…
But I’m happy.
Cleaned it, gave it a good pass of linseed oil and put it in the safe.

The best thing is that my Ministry of Finance uncorked a good bottle of Prosecco to celebrate.
I guess I’m a lucky guy.
