Just acquired my first 03a3, a Remington, SN 4133321 with RA 12-43 barrel. It has a USGI straight stock.

The rear mounting screw behind the trigger guard (installed from underneath) is approx 1 1/2 inches long and when tightened, lacks about 1/4 to 3/8 inches of travel from coming flush with the top of the threaded hole in the back of the receiver (viewed from top). It appears to grab only a few threads before bottoming out on the bottom at the rear of the trigger guard. Is this typical, or should the screw be longer?

Many thanks for your advice.
