Rock-Ola Stock Question

I posted the photo of the Rock-Ola stock a number of months back to find out what the “P” on the grip implies. One comment was “it looks like a chip missing in the wood” by someone trying to be cute. The stock is on a Rock-Ola, that according to Rich is at least all correct. Has anyone seen anything like this before on a RO, SN 4591498? I don’t think it is a normal proof mark.
PS I think the stock is a cutdown highwood.
