I have found a legit 1884 carbine. Great bore, but has a couple issues.
First, the buffington sight has the windage adjustment knurled end broken or twisted off. Whoever did it then slotted the remained screw end, so that they could adjust it with a screwdriver. Problem is this is stripped, or without the knob on the end of the screw, it moves freely. I can push the sight left or right with my fingers. When you push it to the left, the screw wants to actually come out but doesn't.
How hard is it to repair the sight, get parts etc? Also, does anyone think the missing end is the problem, or is something likey stripped inside? I would lean that way, because one way to have broken the knob off would be trying to free a siezed screw, so maybe they stripped it and broke the knob off at the same time.
The second thing, and I am not sure how big a deal it is is when I close the action, There is a small amount of play in the breachblock. I can move it side to side a little. How tight should that be?
Thanks,
