ALaskan on M1D
After I got my CMP auction M1C and I spent the bucks for the scope rings I was pretty much wiped out of cash I knew it would be a long time before I could afford a correct 81 or a 82 scope. So I was considering getting a M84 because they are cheaper . I saw a AL B series scope on gunbroker for $160 There some talk that Alaskans were used on 51 rebuild Cs. so I figured I would make do with that until something came along that I could afford. Yesterday I was looking at Scott Duffs web site and he had one of the CMP Ds that they auctioned a few years ago it came straight from rebuild with all of the accessories packaged. the scope was a Alaskan B6271 my scope is a B5709. SO can I assume that my scope is correct and give up thoughts of paying $$ for a M82? also that scope came with a rubber eye shield can they be purchased anywhere?

The Alaskan Lyman with the B prefix were used on M1D's and C's. There is an M81 on Ebay now.

"the genuine military Lymans iv seen, had drawing numbered turret caps.," says Chuckindenver. Easy to have a dealer talk you into something. Lots of Lyman Alaskan scopes floating about. "Let the buyer beware".

I could not tell from the picture posted on the web site if there were drawing numbers on the turret caps I sent of an email asking Scott if there were any drawing numbers on the scope hopefully he will respond. A while back I was told by Dave McClain that my B serial number was right in the middle of a block of serial numbers that were documented to have gone to the Military in 1951.
