Question re my new Inland's Type III Recoil Plate
Part has strongly stamped "W" along the tang. Directly beneath the W's right lower point is a fainter "mark", one like a vertical bar, perhaps an "I".
Is "WI", for Inland, stamped left to right as written or are the symbols broken across separate lines making the "I" here a scratch?
Wood is Winchester, hence my "confusion".

Thank you painter77. I've been researching the ebay/gunbroker archives for a while but have not yet found a good example stamping for "WI" (on any part) which matches mine. A verbal descript isn't much to go on so here's a pic:

Is this a Winchester part or an Inland part?

It looks to me like a W stamped recoil plate that has a milling mark below it, and a double X stamped screw.

Holy smoke, good eyes, I missed this late Winchester screw in my winland's data sheet so thanks! So Winchester I guess it is.

Yes, it's a 'gouge', not a marking.
