I have even seen No1's and 4's referred to as ROYAL Enfields in Shotgun News! Maybe that person had been brought up on Royal Enfield motorcycles!

Haha, I've read those ads as well. Adds to the commonwealth intrigue, I guess.
I'd hazard a guess that the only 'Royal Enfields' are the Siamese Contract rifles. Or were any commercials or No4 contracts run for Middle-Eastern kingdoms?
Cheers,
Matt

Ah, yes...... LUCAS. When I was in Australia
, all our Land Rovers had Lucas electrics (we changed the alternators to AC Delco eventually) and one of the Vehicle Mechanics who learned his trade in the Opal mines told me that LUCAS stood for Loads of Unconnected Crap And Solder.

The old man did his auto electrical apprenticeship in the 60's and then went to work for Lucas for a few years - no wonder his bald as a badger now.
Still he gets his just deserts now restoring British
car and bikes of the old Lucas gear.
Lucas made on one good thing - "Flamethower" spotlights.

He's got a valid point though jimbob9. You can still get all of the bits to repair/rebuild the old Lucas stuff. I even got new throwout springs for my '69mini Cooper distributor but I had to machine new internal bushings. But it was still pretty simple
