03A3 Developing a Crack, Part 2
I removed the action and the barrel from the stock and did a more thorough inspection. Indeed, the stock piece that supports the recoil lug is cracked horizontally around half way down and can be lifted out. The crack does not start behind the tang but is the continuation of a hairline crack that begins behind the magazine well area of the stock.
With all this going on should I really mess with this stock or just buy a replace ment? This rifle is for shooting, not collecting.
Any recommendations on where to procure a stock? Boyd's ? CMP
?

Give Northridge Int'l a call. The Big Tulsa Gunshow is coming up. You will find wood there. Buy a stock with screws, not pins.

i stand behind my original assesment.....replace the stock..
avoid a reproduction, and spend the money on a nice original.

I will scrap the stock.
I guess an NOS stock would be ideal.

Roberto you may want to solicit some opinions from the targe shooters as to the advisability/desireability of a scant or "c" stock over the style "s" replacement. If they are legal for your type of matches a scant or "C" may prove to be a better fit.

I have ordered a "C" from CMP
. They have excellent reviews. I have one of their stocks on an M1
.
