Garand stock wood identfication
I recently purchased a Garand
that I believe was in service with the Koreans, based on ground area on the laft side of the receiver. It was imported by CAI. Anyway I am trying to identify the wood type for each of the 3 parts. They all look different to me. I cleared most of the grime with 000 steel wool, then two rounds of 000 steel wool with minwax antique furniture stripper. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The stock looks like heavily sanded American walnut to me. The front hand guard looks birch and top hand guard is tough to tell. May be American walnut as well.

Looks to me like the stock and front hand guard are birch, while the rear hand guard is walnut.

Go with Rick's identification. If anyone would know, he would.
