Krag Sporter carbine...
Well..I got it real cheap and that is my excuse. Barrel is 22 1/8 from crown to bolthead. Front sight is sleeved, ramped with blade..the crown is nicely turned. Rear sight is flip up peep/pronghorn configuration on a stepped ramp. There is no handguard, one barrel band 12 1/2 inches from muzzle no front swivel, front of stock is rounded and ends 5 inches to rear of muzzle...no cleaning rod hole. No cartouches or other markings. Model 1898 SN# 344573. I know it is a mongrel...but has a great bore. I figured it was worth $300 as a shooter.

Do me a favor and recheck those markings. The serial and the model. See if it's actually 1899. If you have that serial right you probably have an 1899.

Oy, we're going to have to start a "Coneten camera fund." For my purposes:
341K to 368K are 1899s. Some rifles mixed in. That is a given. The rifles invade the end of that carbine block. Your rifle is invading the start. So nice detailed markings of the model and serial would be much appreciated. The "1898" and "1899" are always a bit hard to read but your's is pretty clearly 1898. At least it appears so - the picture isn't good. Stated another way, the model marking appears crisp but the picture doesn't do it justice.
For your purposes:
It appears to be an 1898 rifle which was molested. The handguard is missing, the rear sight is aftermarket, the stock has been cut down, the barrel likewise. Front sight was replaced.
Yes, worth $300 as a shooter.
