A First For Me

I know, it's probably not a big deal, but it is the first one that I have come across.

I broke down the bolt on one of my latest acquisitions, an 1,871,xxx S'G', and found this early extractor. I have been through about thirty or so M1 icon

carbines and had never run across one until tonight.

The bolt is an OI2 flat, with an NI type 2 firing pin.

Greg, curios as to what the rest if the bolt looks like. That extractor does not seem like it has alot of wear on it from the the pictures.

The bolt and plungers look really good too. The bolt looks brand new, although I don't know if it has it's original finish, a very smooth light gray park. I really don't think the rifle was fired after rebuild. It was a "white bag" carbine.

Do you have a picture of the plunger? I have one exactly like that in an early Inland with a "cone" shaped plunger.

This is not the actual plunger, as I have already reassembled the rifle. It is identical to the one that's in that bolt with the early extractor.

I would not shoot it with that plunger mated with the extractor in the photo. I do not shoot mine with the correct parts, don't want it launching pieces and springs all over. My extractor does appear to be a little different.

Yea, I don't plan on shooting this one. It's a really nice "white bag" rifle. I wouldn't want to have to replace any broken parts. I have others that I do shoot.

I'll be keeping an eye out for the right plunger, which will be the only part I will ever change on this rifle.
