SA "Cloverleaf" TG?
I posted another thread here about the ferrule screw on my field grade SA 1.58. I bought the gun to swap some of its HRA parts onto my HRA (with had SA parts), so I wasn't paying that much attention at the time I picked up it at the North Store --it was a target of opportunity after looking through the carbines.
Anyway, it has a 1-55 barrel and has the very dark park of the Greek guns, ME 1.5. Not a collector's piece by any means, but it looks like a very good shooter to me. It wasn't until I started taking it apart that I noticed the trigger guard is a lot different than my other shooter Garands. I googled early guards for pictures and it seems to be a 'cloverleaf,' but that doesn't mean much to me. Number is D28290-6-SA. Hammer says C46008-5 SA. Original, if worn, finish all around. The shroud over the sear and spring is cut away, unlike in my later TG. On what rifle would this be the correct part?

I noticed no one has replied to your questions.
Perhaps--only perhaps--everyone else is as confused as I am. I've never heard of a cloverleaf trigger guard. Cloverleaf trigger housing, yes, but not trigger guard.
In this case, a photo may be worth a thousand words.

When you say "the shroud over the sear and spring" are you talking about the hammer spring housing? If so, they are all cut away to allow clearance for the safety.

Blah, yes, trigger housing--too many late nights in a row. And I don't what to say, Latigo--the spring on my HRA is entirely enclosed.

The 'cloverleaf:'
The housing from my HRA (6528290-HRA-N)
Took a better look at it next to the HRA group--the bastard is just installed backwards! Never even occurred to me, I just assumed it was some other variation. There was no cosmo anywhere in the gun so I didn't make a detail strip for the trigger group a priority. Looks like I better!
Basic question: when did SA stop using this style?

The hammer spring housing on your HRA is installed correctly. The other one is upside down. That is why you can see the spring

Yeah, just fixed it. Funny enough the group on the CMP site's detailed instructions is a cloverleaf.

That is because most trigger housings are the cloverleaf type. Springfield went to the cloverleaf hole in 1940 and Winchester went to it in early '43. HRA and IHC never made anything but cloverleaf style.

Agree! Your -6 Housing should be practically identical to your HRA housing. They didn't change much after the cloverleaf hole was adopted.

Wouldn't a much better picture of the "cloverleaf" hole be from the OTHER side of the housing? Can't see it at all in the above pics. (Or am I missing something here?)
