Picked Up Another Inland
I decided to take everybody's advice, and not shoot my 349XXX serial numbered Inland M1
. Picked up another Inland off GunBroker for shooting, and possibly doing CMP
matches. This one is serial numbered 639XXX, and the barrel is marked "INLAND MFG. DIV. , GENERAL MOTORS , 2-44". It has the later adjustable sight (marked "PI", round bolt, type-3 barrel band (marked "SA") and such. I'll post up a better description of it tomorrow, along with some pictures.
The carbine is in pretty good shape, as far as the metal goes, won't say the same for the wood. Barrel is stamped "BLUE SKY/ARLINGTON. VA.", but the action is not worn, and the muzzle is good as well, an M2 Ball round has about 1/8" from muzzle to case showing. No apparent wear on the feed ramp or in the chamber.
Not sure about the wood on this one, came with a bad fitting M2 stock (no cartouches, light finish, almost looks like it's from a Universal). The other stock looks like it's the one it returned from Korea in, it's been badly sanded, the cross cannons have been sanded off, has a boxed "SG" stamping on the right side, circle "P" on the front of the pistol grip, and again a boxed stamping, three letters I can't make out over an "EB" on the left side of the stock. I'm pretty positive I'm going to find another stock for this one.

Let's try some pictures now and some stamping info. Trigger group is of course Inland, flip safety marked "J.A.O.", magazine release "M", hammer "TH", bolt "-U-", slide marked inside "PI", slide marked underneath "C", recoil lug marked "W", barrel flat marked "B.I." and "2", receiver stamped "7", front sight marked "PD" over "SG", barrel band marked "SA", rear sight marked "PI", looks like "H" marked on front of gas block. Hope this description helps me to fill in some of the info in this carbine.

CMR, I'm confused about the stock you described. Is the stock in the pics what you feel is the Korean return or the M-2? (Cause the stock in the pic is not a M-2).

The stock that is on it appears to be a Saginaw stock, with mismatching handguard. The other stock is not pictured, but I've been able to figure out it's from a Universal Carbine (compared it to several others pictured on eBay). The pictures don't show all the rough sanding marks on the stock (some of the cartouches survived the sanding), but it's going to take a lot of sanding to make it look good again.
