Well, get ready for the new LEAD PAINT rule...By Federal Law, any house made before 1978 has to be TESTED FOR LEAD PAINT after April 22, before a painter can paint or a contractor can do woirk. All of the contractors and painters have to be "trained". And the costs for this crap will fall on us.

I realize we are way off topic, but consider this:

Colorado has to assume ownership of the rain to enforce such a law, like all states do with wild game. Where in our history were the states given such rights of possession? Where and when was our federal or state government given the right to seize our money through taxes and give that same money to others (welfare)? Through inaction of responsible voters. The underlying problem is that the percentage of our citizens who depend on government aid has increased to the point that they control our elections. Political correctness not withstanding, that percentage accounts for the vast majority of crime in this country. I have no idea how to correct the problem, and I do believe it will get progressively worse.

I will step off my horse now. Back to 03's.

Well this is off topic and a few days old but the board is kinda slow.

At the risk of being a contrarian, it seems to me that in many areas there is less regulation now then there was 30, 40, or 50 years ago, and in those areas where there is more regulation, a lot of it can be explained by things just getting more crowded. Business likes growth, and growth brings more people, which means more chance of friction, and inevitably the rules for getting along get more complicated. And in the case of the CO runoff rules, I think those are like a century old. That's a long long time before the first hippy had his VW microbus break down in Boulder, and since he was broke he decided to stay.

I don't think the country has slipped so much as that it's playing in a much tougher league now. Countries like China, India, have technology and industry and people who are tasting the fruits of that work for the first time and man, are they hungry! Whereas here we've been living a pretty good life since WW2 ended and people lose their edge a little bit. But compared to the Europeans we've still got it going on as a country.

Have we been in the same country? The Europeans are way ahead of us on all fronts.

I have been in the industrial sector for all of my life, over forty years. Start-up costs for a business has gone from reasonable, to having incredibly asinine regulatory cost. Regulatory costs for a new mine is in the tens of millions of dollars and can take up to twenty years. I went to work for URI, Inc. in 1988, they thinking they would be opening a new mine in Grants, NM within a couple of years. They had started the permitting process 5 years previously. I worked for them for 12 years, quit, started up two more businesses, and URI is still trying to get that permit after spending over twenty million dollars of sunk costs.

It took me 4-years and over $1MM to get an operating permit for an "All-Green" anaerobic digestion facility for producing renewable energy and I had the backing of NCSU and the US Army. The original budget had dedicated 6-months and $20K for the permit. The typical response to a letter to DENR is 4 to 6 months. You have to have the business infrastructure to apply for a permit, so one just sits while your cash assets go out the door with no return on investment.

I could go on and on, but by now one should get the picture. Consider that some investment of yours that cost you many dollars may have failed for no other reason that regulatory issues. It is the small start-up businesses that made this country great that are in peril. I will soon retire, and it will be our children who are/will suffer. My question is why? I have seen no real improvements in industry due to these actions. One can still pay to pollute if one so chooses, and one can still fill in the wetlands to build homes. For every regulation, they included a loophole.

I think this country is approaching third world status. We are technically bankrupt and still adding immense debt. It is insane. We are dancing to the music on the Titanic on the approach to the iceberg.

I used to buy stuff from eBay all the time, primarily M1 Garand items but also magazine ads, coins, etc. However, once they started their anti-gun crusade I bought less and less. Consequently, haven't bought anything there, gun related or not, for better than 2 years. Just say NO to fleaBay!

Well now you have to take the ITAR into consideration. I retired from the defense industry and have had my fill with the ITAR. It was written by lawyers, and they cannot even explain it properly. But it now it is our responsibility to interpret it before you can sell military items outside the US.

All of these ebay changes are the personal crusade of Meg Whitman, who may just be the next California governor.

Think California gun laws are stupid & arbitrary now? Let's see, my guess is that the first change will be a requirement that all state income taxes have to be paid with Paypal.

I quit selling and buying on Ebay after they refused to get onto the chineses guys selling fake coins and other fake items. I am better off for quitting them and looking elsewhere. the fees are rediculous and you are correct to see ebay as a liberal bs site and will still lose you money in the future. about the most illegal thing I have ever heard. the govt does not own or have a right to restrict rain water use that you personally gather at you residence. how stupid are they.
