A VERY, very interesting weapon case
Right, here we go - it's a vaguely military looking fibreglass box which seems to have nothing very special about it. Looks like it was 'improvised' from whatever someone had lying around, possibly in an armoury. The handle came from an old suitcase, and the lock is the kind you would see on a garden shed.

Let's open it up though :-

Wow, I think someone has been keeping guns in there....but what kind of guns ?

Those cutouts look like they would accept an MP-5 with a collapsible stock, a strangely shaped weaponsight and a D Cell maglite attachment. There's room for a Browning Highpower too
Somehow a cat got in there too, but he's a Schrodingers Cat who doesn't accept the laws of space and time and he gets bloody everywhere.
There is a compartment in the base for what looks very like an MP-5 suppressor, a cleaning rod ( ? ) and some unidentified cylindrical objects.

Ok, what's in the other side ?

Well for starters there is a cat. I don't think he was issued with the case though. Apart from the cat there is space for 3 X 30 round MP-5 mags, one 20 round ( ? ) MP-5 mag, four Browning mags and some other gubbins that I can't fathom the purpose of, except for the cleaning rods.
Who on earth would be carrying this sort of kit around with them as part of their day job ?
Anything to do with these guys ?

If anyone has a better explanation, I'd love to hear it

I don't think so Mike. The shape of the cutout is exactly that of a Maglite.
As far as I know ( which isn't very far
) UK
forces have only used M-203's until quite recently.

No, I think you're spot on. In Canada
the JTF Special group have cases of the same nature. By Pelican. Done up for an individual's needs. Not standard.

The actual fibre glass box is nothing special. These were demandable items through the stores system as a toolbox, we (Front line RAF Sqn) used these as line toolkits. Our bxes were green and had black handles (And I'm sure they were identical handle to that design so is probably original).
I've a fealing there is a MOD ofice who you go to with the tools you want in your kit, and they have all the tools to cut the black foam out to the correct shape. I would imagine thats whats happened here, custom made for a special ops team. One thing I'm sure is, its deffinatly Brit military.
p.s. I havnt seen these kits in use for about 10 years.

Brilliant. Thanks for that, I've been wanting to find out the origin of the box.
From the limited information I've got the fact that box is nothing special is an indicator of authenticity, a lot of special ops equipment of the 1980's era being produced in house by the unit armourers.
Still, I would expect the box to originate inside the MOD supply chain and now I know it did
