Sight Covers
I recently purchased an original Remington 03A3 and I am looking to put a correct Remington sight cover on it.
The Remington sight covers are supposed to be blued sheet metal but the one I have looks parkerized to me (see middle cover in the attached picture) and the ones on ebay appear to be like the one I have and don't look to be blued. Is mine a post war reparkerized finish as the markings are not as vivid as some I have seen?
It's hard to tell how blue the cover in the reference thread on this website is because it is so far away but there is one here that is Not mine http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s...3A3/03A3-7.jpg that looks pretty blue
Would you consider mine in the attached picture below to blued? Are blued ones hard to find?
Thanks in advance for your help,
Jarrod

1st and 2nd are WWII. They look parked. I think some were originally parked. Not sure. The third one looks pre-WWII to me. Blued sight covers marked R on one side and U.S. with flaming shell are not rare. I see them frequently on auction. This one seems like a decent price - SPRINGFIELD 1903A3 BLUED SIGHT COVER - eBay (item 120497169352 end time Apr-22-10 11:10:50 PDT)
When you search auctions for 1903a3 parts and stuff remember to search with and without the space. Examples - 1903a3/1903 a3/03a3/03 a3.

If your going to shoot it, you may not like the sight picture as the top of the protector comes very close to the sight. Maybe other here have experienced the same thing.

I believe the 03-A3 sight cover was intended for protection in transit. it would be removed for use. The top of the blaade is very close to the inside of the cover when its inplace.

The original sight protectors on my 03a3's needed to be removed to get any kind of a decent sight picture and every time you remove them you also remove a little more finish from the barrel.
I leave them off.

Another option is to get a USMC sight cover which is larger. Repro ones are easier to find than the real deal.

I wasn't really going to shoot it much, I just wanted it to be correct and I think it looks better with the sight cover on there.
