    Unusual Stock Marking

I just found a picture of this marking on a Garandicon that is being auctioned on AA. I have an M-1A (Springfield Armory) stock that has the exact same marking, and I could never figure it out. Bad copy of DoD cartouche? Something else? Any ideas?? Thoughts? Comments?

Round DAS stamps are work-in-progress approvals, are meant to be sanded or machined off the finished part. The subject was covered in detail in the GCAicon Journal a few years ago.
