I find some of the prices quoted for .22 ammo rather expensive as personally I and most of my friends use our .22's for "fun shooting" I have gone to the range with one friend that has some very expensive .22 by various makers and yes at 50 yards it does group very well. The fun we find is shooting "clays" at 100 yds. then shooting the pieces 'till they are impossible to hit being too small. What do we use? Right now Blazer in the 525 count box, cost $21.95. I can shoot 7.62 X 39 for under 17 cents a round so to spend 13 cents on .22 is just out of the question for me. I have years ago shot literally countless gophers, crows etc with the cheapest ammo I could find and had zero problems with quality or accuracy. I have been told Lapua make most of their .22 on the same assembly line, test fire batches and the one's that shoot the best get classified differently and thus you pay more? Nothing special with the production just better grouping so up goes the price. All Lapua match ammo comes off the same machines and it is tested and the batch that groups the best is marketed at a higher grade and price. This came from the son of a friend that lived in Lapua for a year and was told this by a technician IN the factory. If you are a world class shooter then certain expensive ammo can make a minute difference. My son has shot flies on a target at 50 yards using inexpensive Federal or Bazer ammo using his CZ452 Varmit 22 with a Bushnell scope. You really don't need to spend a fortune on .22 ammo, spend the money on a very good gun that will last a lifetime and a good quality scope.
