Eldowerks - If there are no visable markings on the bolt sleeve then it is a Winchester which is marked on the shaft. Don't go to any extra trouble of taking the bolt apart. I was just curious. Thanks!

    You are correct, sir.
Disassembled the bolt and sure enough the bolt sleeve is Winchester.
When I acquired the rifle, the bolt also had a Winchester cocking piece, but I replaced it with an Eddystone cocking piece with a sear notch that I polished.

Just curious, why did you polish the cocking piece? I also have one that is somewhat polished as well as the sight ladder. Was this common in the field?

I dunno, cquickel...on my rifle, both the original Winchester cocking piece as well as the Eddy replacement were polished and "in the white" bare steel when I got them.

I didn't polish the entire cocking piece, I polished the sear notch area of the cocking piece as well as the sear, trigger cams, and where the trigger interacts on the action, in order to smooth the trigger pull.

As far as the ladder sight goes, the numbers stand out better visually if the ladder has been polished.
