In regards to post #7, The cover page of the Oz parts list states -
No. 1 Mk III, No. 1 Mk III* and Emergency...
What kind of No. 1 Enfield is an "Emergency" Rifle??
Sorry for the late reply Bindi2 I'm in the middle of a Windows XP virus disaster and have changed over to using a different operating system call Linux. Everything I posted is from the same 1945 Australianparts manual meaning plate "J" is from this very same Australian parts manual.
As you can see our famous American Enfield author Ian Skennertonjust copied the Australian manual.

"What kind of No. 1 Enfield is an "Emergency" Rifle??"
One that only shoots grenades from a badly worn barrel with blanks and can only shoot normal projectile ammunition in an "Emergency".
An "Emergency" would be 10,000 Japs coming down the Kokoda Trail or Track.
(Or only having a fake rubber Enfield to shoot back with until the director yells "Cut" and then someone from the prop department hands you a blank firing "Emergency" Enfield)
