1903A3 Rear sight base removal
I want to remove the rear sight base from my SC so I can get it blued.
I stripped the sight and removed the tiny set screw in the base, then I Hammered it with a short dowel a few times to try to move it with no luck.
Before I BUBBA it and replace it with a new one is there a safe way to do it?
IT was rearseneled at SA and it looks like they reparked the barreled receiver with the sight base in place. The guts are all blue and look new. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Since we have 10 Carbines I just ordered the tool. I figure it will pay for itself
over the years.

OOps you are right. I just got a S'G' Carbine and thats what the tool is fore.
The 03A3 had a parked rear sight and I tried to drift it off and replace it with a blued one but the dove tail section is very thin so I removed the park and cold blued it on the gun. Looks okay and I didn't break the receiver.
I have to many guns and to few brains.

Try this. Remove the stock. Open the bolt & lay the barreled action on its right side on a firm surface like a 2x8. Lube the rear sight with WD40 or something similar. Take a .4" or larger brass or aluminum punch (end must be flat) and lay it along the very bottom of the sight base - not on the side. The base is staked on & you must use force to break the staking. With a 2 lb or 3 lb hammer, hit the punch smartly. The sight should come off in 1-3 strikes. I've removed dozens of rear sights like this, usually dry, no lube & didn't bend or break any.

Is the "sticky" thread at the top of the forum of any help?
