My sling and sight hood came today. Sling not a big deal. Sight hood, I now understand why the Russians didn't put them back on. Half an hour later, a pair of needle nose pliers, two small pipes a hammer and a second person and it is installed. I hope the front sight doesn't need adjusting.

a pair of snap ring pliers does that job in 3 seconds. just as easy to remove too
i'm pretty sure the capture screws, cleaning rods and sight hoods were just melted down by the Russians anyway

I look at my front sight and there are NO grovers. I dont see how the sight is ever held on, there is no screw of any kind that I can see. it just has an eagle with 214 in the very front. any Ideas?

any ideas for what? how the sight is on? The sights on a Mauser are soldered in place. After the barrel was screwed onto the receiver, two small holes were drilled into, but not through the barrel, one for each sight. A screw is threaded into each sight and down into the respective hole and then the sight was soldered in place. To remove the sights, this process is reversed. The screw for the front sight is hidden under the drift slide. This slide can be removed with a small brass drift and a hammer.
the eagle over 214 is a waffenamt. just another inspector's mark.
