There; we have that out of the way.

I'm no longer youthful, have no money, but I like to mess about with old guns, especially when I can do it on the cheap. Recently, I have become an official Old Fart and have a genuine Government of Canadaicon Plastic Card to tell me what my name is when I forget it. They also send me money every month as a reward for not dying. I think I'm going to try to keep this up for a long time!

I am (marginally) sane, I'm the nicest guy I know and I worked for a long time as a journalist, a teacher and a bunch of other things. I have a big hammer and a roll of baling-wire, so I can fix Harleys, too! My faults (and they are few, of course, being that I'm writing this up) include an insatiable addiction to Ross Rifles, an unconquerable love for the old SMLE and a general interest in anything that might have been used in the Great War or earlier.

I live in a small town in Manitoba, exactly halfway between Winnipeg and Regina: lots of flat land for trying things out. My best friend seems to be a 2100-year-old Egyptian wizard who drinks too much; I have written two very long novels of his adventures in the last couple of years and, right now, I am chasing out information for his next two adventures, one in 1066 and the other in 1918. It's fun.

Anyone sending a message will be answered, although it might take time: I might be stranded on a Viking ship again (the reason I wasn't here for a long time).

Take care, all, and happy collecting!

And, once again, I will post something: SOMETHING.

Have fun! That's what it's all about!
Wow Smellie, and I thought I was talented!!!

    Good Morning All,
I'm new to this forum but have been reading it for several
months....Alot of of knowlegable folks here !!
I've used milsurp rifles for 50+ years, my first and first real rifle was an Italianicon Carcano in 1959 or 1960. (horrible
thing)..My next was a SMLE #1 that my brother sporterized
for me (one piece stock). These rifles were for deer hunting
and I still have the SMLE.
Over the years I've played with many different Nations and calibers of milsurp rifles and sporterized a few also..(Don't hate me right away, this was done in the years foriegn guns were considered disposable ). Now almost all of my military guns are used for competition and are "as
issued". The list includes a type 38 sporterized and rechambered to 257 Roberts, a Spanish m95 carbine, also
    sporterized, 2 SMLE #4 mk1, one 03a3, one 03a4, 2 m1
carbines, one m1 Garandicon, a Krag carbine, a 1873 trapdoor
an 1850 Springfield and an Enfield 1917..
Most of my competion is at the Eastern CMPicon Games at
Camp Butner NC and Camp Perry.
I have no " safe Queens ", if I have it, I shoot it..
Now, a question,.....I have my eye on another 03a4, all the
usual stampings are correct, however it has a milled trigger
guard and floor plate and also a straight stock ??? I was told it is an early DCM rifle. Is this correct ??
Thanks, I'll talk to you later..
    Regards, Richard

    Hello Everyone
New member here, but I have been around for quite some time. I have enjoyed collecting and shooting old military guns for years. I have haunted
this site for awhile because it's a good place to learn about the hobby and
    read some great stories.
