FNC1A1 MILES Gear

A recent pick up. A set of MILES (Multiple Integrated Laser Engagement System) gear made for the FNC1A1. The set includes a rifle unit with the trigger mech along with an individual soldier's vest w/sensors. Also have an umpires laser.

This may have been the last toy/accessory in the system for the FNC1 as they were phased out very shortly after these were manufactured. However for the FN collection, figured it was neat.

As per the last picture, now I just need to figure out the power/battery source.... Any HELP!!!!!!!

Anybody have any literature? Manuals?

This system is obviously made in Britain by Weston Simfire. Notice the barrel mount configuration, very Brit, L1 type of stuff.







Note the trigger button. It clamps on to the trigger guard, with the cable stretched to the end of the laser attached to the end of the barrel.


Here's the battery compartment for the rifle unit, umpires laser, and vest. Any weapon tech out there with some assistance as to what battery, where to find, or what to use as a substitute???

I don't think we ever got those. I was there for the whole thing, 15 years of FN and 20 of Colt product. I never saw the MILES for FN, just C7. There are a few around here who may have dealt with those in the system but if you come up dry, there's one man I can ask in Petawawa...

Ya, I don't think they were used very much/at all. I'm feeling these didn't get issued anywhere, to anybody.

I don't even know what voltage, etc., these are at, to even start having batteries made. So any information I can find is greatly appreciated.

I was wondering if any of the present day, C7/M16 MILES stuff would give some clues?

The short time I did the "Army" thing, 1978, before going to an air base, there was no such thing as this MILES gear.

I never saw any used on L1A1's. The onbly real use now is during FIBUA training

The miles gear for Colt used a common battery, C or D I think. Right out of stores. The one you have seems to be square edge. If Mr Laidler isn't aware of them, then we may have a problem here. Valley gun works in Petawawa is owned by an ex armourer W.O. that might know where these power cells are from. The unit itself could be UK produced and then the mount is cooked up for our rifle. Thus the marking for FN C1. What's the stock # inside, how is it marked, L or C or M? That could give us a clue to whether it's UK, Canadian or American made. You could also check with some of the electronic geeks local to you, they might know what kind of power cell to harness up.

I think I could get a battery made up, I'm just concerned about what voltage to start with. I'm not converse with eletronics, can they test the instrument and determine the power? I'd hate to apply too much juice and burn it out. However, once I get it fired up, I can drive my wife nuts with this stuff, I'm sure

I think you could see the geeks I was talking about and they will make an educated guess to begin with. It probably has info on it they will understand that we won't recognize. Yes the barrel looks SLR,FAL,L1A1 BUT it's marked for the C1A1 and no one used those but us. It may be simpler than we think. Go see your local geek.

And it's got "Made in England" on it.

I know a couple of radio guys who've done a bunch of electric stuff. I'll buy one of them a lunch and have him look at the gear.

I was hoping to get lucky and find the lone Weapon Tech on here who may have seen this stuff. And of course have an extra manual sitting around not doing anything. I think I am dealing with a really short life span, if in fact it ever made it to our system, rather than just a trials or demo thing.

Got it working. Still need a PAM/Manual if anyone comes across one.
