I suspect you're right, Griff. But the plot thickens even further. I picked up a new repro upper handguard to stain and finish along with my Boyd's stock, only to find the slot cut for the sight doesn't fit. The slot in the handguard is about a centimeter forward of the sight itself.

I'm beginning to wonder if the missing half inch didn't come off the breech end...?

I'm starting to think I need to have somebody who really knows what they're talking about take a look at it
