Is there a marking on the barrel band? It looks a little like a cut-off III.

No markings, it looks exactly like my other type 2, that PBI and a few others said is real, and I asked myself this before I got it. Why would someone go to all of that trouble and leave Irwin Pederson parts on it.

Now Wulf, you know I will take exception to that... We all know that man REALLY didn't reach the moon, that Nixon wasn't dishonest and - what do you mean that the sun rose in the east this morning?????
There are ALOT of faked, humped, forced-rebuilt, I-want-this-to-be-a-$3000-carbine messed up carbines out there, but there are also a few genuine good deals and secret finds....
No argument here, Rusty had the means to cut a real deal on a really nice carbine. All the rest of us just need to congratulate him and shut-up - oh, and don't forget to DROOL!

I never argue here - merely point out possibilities. Why is this carbine so sacrosanct?

It seems that all the early Robert Irwin stocks I have seen were made from some of the best grade of walnut around at the time. Really pretty stock and fine grain in it.
