Mummy No 4 Mk 2
I have been trying to acquire a mummy no.4 mk2 from the 1954 undelivered Irish contract. The only ones I have seen for sale are from 1955 - UF 55 AXXXXX, these are not from the Irish contract. The Irish contract are 54 PF30XXXX - PF 35XXXX.
Does any one have or know of anyone who has one of these Irish mummy enfields. If they don't exist, then I'll try to acqurie one of the 1955 mummy enfields instead of waiting for something that's not out there.
Any help would be appreciated.

What country are you located in B&B? If the US try Gunbroker. I picked up a mummy Irish contract last year for $600+. GB has several unwrapped and unfired IC's listed.

On a side note, anyone know how No.4 Mk.1s would have been factory-wrapped. Some guy is trying to sell me what he calls a No.4 Mk.1 still in factory wrap, but the only identification on the wrapping is a label with a serial number, and the bloomin' thing looks like it has been wrapped in plastic over something else and taped in place with black insulating tape ("I don't think so, Tim"). I am trying to get more information out of him (i.e. if it is fully wrapped and the only identification is a serial number on a label, how the heck do you know it is a No.4 Mk.1??), and I will keep you informed.

A Mk1 in the wrap. I would bet against that.

So would I, Madcrate, but that I why I am digging. I know that there might be No.4 Mk.1s out there still in factory wrapping, but the example I was thinking of (maybe mentioned here a while ago) was an FTR that was then wrapped and put in storage.

The FTR rifles that I used to see, 'new' as in FTR 'new' were bound in sticky white greasy cotton impregnated paper at the muzzle for about 4" or so rearwards. same across and covering the whole breech and bolt/magazine area and also around the butt up to and slightly beyond the sling loop.
Some had the same around the top sling loop too but by no means all. These were sealed in a full length green heavy plastic bag which was wrapped to the rifle with black cotton type 'tank-tape'.
The labels were attached to the outside of the green bag with a very strong string (I still have a bit of a roll.............).
We all know about the brand new Mk2's and the only ones of these I ever saw were issued to RAF Cadets and were the usual PF and UF55A serial number batches. None (?) ever made it to the Army

For those readers who might be looking for more information about these "wrapped" Enfields.
With thanks to Gunboards member Rob "Trebor" Reed, there's an entry about these rifles in the England - Milsurp Knowledge Library (click here)
Still wrapped 1955 No.4 Mk2 Enfield Rifle (Mfg by Fazakerley) (click here) .....
Also, here's a recent lengthy thread in this forum titled No.4 Mk.II still in wrapping - current prices? (click here), which might be of interest.

For those in the UK
, about 18 months ago, Bob Burbage had a load of wrapped Mk 2s at about £550; unwrapped for proof of course.

According to the person selling the wrapped No.4 Mk.1, it was wrapped and dipped in Green wax (not sure if that ties in with the full length green heavy plastic bag that Peter mentioned). He had bought two rifles in the 1970's from NAVY Arms, and had unwrapped one and left this one in the wrapper. The wrapper looks as though it is fastened with black tape.
