No5 Mk1 with different front sight
I just bought a carbine with a heavy coat of black paint, and what looks like a rifle front sight. there is no bayo lug or flash hider, just the ears and sight itself. I'm a dub at pix but under the paint on the receiver was the No5 Mk1 Rof (F) with 5/45 and a M44xx serial number. It has lightening cuts in the receiver, rounded wood fore end, 8.5 inches barrel band to receiver ring, good rubber butt pad, and the only thing I found on the stock ring was "England
" on the left side. Were any made with that sight? The rest seems kosher. this is my first Enfield and I appreciate any help. thanks, George in Florida

Can you get us a picture? Nothing like it springs to mind.
If "dub" means "no success so far", there's a tutorial in the top of the forum lists (click on link below):

ETA- I'm w/ Mk VII, here (his post is below)- in all likelihood it's been modified from original.

In the past surplus dealers and various owners were encouraged by the likes of P.O. Ackley to do this sort of thing as it made it look less 'issued'

A hacksaw can sportyize any flash hider.

Other than the front sight the rifle sounds right. I hope the barrel is not cut. It is possible the flasher hider was removed and a different sight installed.

See if this works. BTW The bore is clean and shiny, and it shoots well.

Maybe a #5 rebarrelled with a #4 barrel? It looks like a #4 front sight.

It does but with a bit of a difference. Hard to tell without it in my hand. Hopefully he can find an original flash hider for it. Then the problem is to get it top dead center and re drill the holes to make the sight pin grooves to locate the pins...
