    The A suffix does indeed mean that the rifle has some non-interchangeable parts. (Often because the rifle was early Fazackerly production using some MkVI parts from Enfield.)

    Second, if the rifle was 1950s Fazackerly production, one would expect the serial number to start with PF and it would be a MK2.

    That leaves FTR. However that would mean that it should be marked so and as a distinguished contributor here has pointed out, the A suffix rifles were actively sort out after the war and destroyed.

    Has anyone any thoughts on it being from Pakistan? Not my field.
