M14 mag
Will a .30-'06 round fit in a M14
magazine?
What is the inside dimension of a M14 mag?
What is the difference in OAL between .30-'06 and .308/7.62MM?
Was there ever a .30-'06 mag developed for the Garand experimental?
I figured some of you guys might know off the top of your head. Thanks, Mike D

Off the top of my head:
No.
Don't remember, but only maybe 1/8" longer than a 7.62 Nato round.
.30-06 = 3.34" (M2 ball), 7.62NATO - 2.80"
Yes. Ultra-rare.

.308 is 7.62mm X 51mm
30-06 is 7.62mm X 63mm

My question, did the military ever use an M14
magazine that was modified to only hold seven or five rounds - this being primarily for sniper operations ?

We had a Viet Nam Veterans Tribute match about 1985. One of the shooters was a former USAF M/Sgt. in crisp fatigues. He had a bunch of 5 round M-14 magazines he had brought back from Viet Nam - this was before ANYBODY made 5 rd. M-14 mags. His explanation was that officers and NCOs would carry M-14s with them to LOOK unloaded (thus harmless) on base... not for the Vietcong but because the EM were fragging officers and senior enlisted especially due to some of the racial stuff going on toward the end of the Viet Nam war.
As to your question someone who has current military sniper training would need to answer that. My take: dubious. Although, it is always possible someone would buy one private purchase and try it.
