Hello from the Land of Enchantment.

I have been involved with shooting and guns for many years. But only recently have delved into military weapons. I am sure that I will have many questions in the future. Right now I am trying to find information about a P-38, it either has a nickel finish or a chrome finish. I was told that the Kriegsmarine did this to weapons to prevent corrosion. I can find no reference to anything like this - has anyone seen a reference or is the gun just a refinish.

    Hi There - - -

I'm new here - a friend forwarded the site to me to help me get information on a revolver recently acquired.. I'm impressed and in the process of collecting World War Two sidearms so this site and membership will help me to a great extant.. So far I have acquired Germanicon - Britishicon and Italianicon sidearms and I still have a few to find..

I have several reference books - if you care to send the proofmark on your P-38 I might be able to find something out for you.. I'm assuming that it has a Waffenamt proof on the slide

Hello All, I'm Richard, From Texas. I just received my C&R license. I have a few CMPicon Garands, and I'm interested in branching out and adding to my small Milsurp collection. Looking forward to what I will learn here. Thanks in advance!

    Newbie here ...

Greetings! This is my first post. I'm interested in a Japaneseicon rifle I have ... and others, as well.

The gent who lived next door to me while I grew up gave me this rifle to thank me for repairing and cleaning/polishing an early Model 10 S&W revolver he carried in his 32 years on the Indianapolis Police Department. It was a total surprise that he would give it to me, since I fixed his revolver as a "favor to a friend."

The rifle is a Type "I" Model 38 rifle. Pardon any nomenclature mistakes I may make, as I only recently (today, 23 July '10) found out for SURE what it is. (Thanks, Riceone, aka - Roy B.) It is in good, safe shooting condition with the sling intact. It originally had the bayonet and scabbard, but unfortunately, the bayonet disappeared years ago with some hoodlums who broke in to my friend's house. My friend, Cecil is a Pearl Harbor survivor and got this rifle on Tarawa (if I remember correctly) where he relieved it from a Japanese soldier who didn't need it any longer. He (my friend) was, among other duties, one of the sailors who "piloted" one of the many landing craft that ferried the Marines to their beachead landing spots.

    Thanks - Jeff B

    Initial Message Rquirement

I've have tried twice to comply with the first posting requirement, but somehow it hasn't stuck. Evidently, I've done something wrong. Here goes again.

I bring you greetings. I'm interested in the 1911, the M1 Garand, the M1 Carbine, and the M14icon. I have an understanding of history which is why I appreciate those Life covers showing US troops. I trained on the M14 and when issued an M16 in Vietnam --- my immediate impression was.. "What is this?"

Based on my experience, I'm biased in favor of the .45, the 30-06, and the 7.62 x 51 (308). I am biased against the 9 mm and the 223. Being consistent with NATO and being able to carry more rounds strikes me as a poor tradeoff, if it takes more rounds to bring the enemy down.

My current pet peeve is the complaint that is widely circulating to the effect that the M1 Garand's enbloc clip makes a ping when it is ejected. Evidently it hasn't occurred to folks that in the middle of a firefight, nobody hears the ping over everything else that is going on --- the artillery, the mortars, the 30 cal machine guns, the BARs, and 1903 Springfields. The ping is lost in background.
