    It is hard to tell too much about your rifle without further information. If the barrel date is correct, the rifle was probably rebuilt sometime before U.S. entry in WWI. As Buffdog said, it probably was originally in 30-03 caliber but was rechambered to 30-06.

    If you can post some good-quality pictures, that would be very helpful.

    I took pictures and will try posting later but here is what I found. On the barrel below the front sight is 4-14, SA and below that the #3.Half way down the barrel is stamped J43 and below that the #3. The bolt has the letter R stamped in several places and the rear recoil lug is stamped IM. The trigger is stamped CV 8147176. The reciever is stamped:
    U.S.
    SPRINGFIELD
    ARMORY
    MODEL 1903
    SERIAL #

    Sounds like your bolt is a Remington.
