Boltless was well worth the money

Since I am the one usually screaming the loudest for pictures, I guess its payback time. This is the boltless carbine I received a few days ago. It was suppose to be a rebuild project for my youngest daughter, but there is nothing that really needs rebuilding on it (except the sight if it’s too short).

I was really surprised by the condition of this carbine since the word was that these were “beyond” rack grade and are marked “no refund or exchanges”. Given the criteria, I would call this one a service grade, but it did not have an inventory tag attached to it so I don’t know how it was graded at CMPicon. Several guys have reported getting tags marked G-3.

It has most of its original dark park which really contrasts with the wear marks. There is no pitting on the metal except for the wear at the crown. The white areas on the left side of the receiver are where the park was rubbed off by a stock – it lines up perfectly with an M-2 stock. Unfortunately there are no original IBM parts except for the receiver and the barrel. Oh, and the proof mark was extremely hard to find even when using a ruler to measure for it. But it is there (see pic).

The stock was dry, but clean when I received it. It only has one dry coat of BLOicon on it when I took these pictures. I decided to not work on the dents because there is a 2 inch knot of wood which had fallen out in the butt of the stock. Otherwise, the stock is in excellent shape with no compression in the recoil shelf or the bullnose.

I already installed a Type II bolt from another carbine and it headspaces good (measures 1.296”). Bottom line is for $325 I got myself a really good buy. I am thinking about ordering another one – or two. It’s going to make a great shooter.

    IBM S/N 36586XX
    Barrel IBM 9-43
Slide - Type V PI Inland
Trigger housing - Type II NPM Marked N 9
    Trigger - Type II SN
    Hammer - Type III WA
Safety - Type III Circle S
Sear - Type III M-2 RIA
Mag Catch - Type III M CC
Rear Site - Type II H.I.
Front Site - Type II “P”
Barrel Band - Type III AMCO
    Stock - Type V M-2 Potbelly SA
Handguard – Type II RMC (already swapped out, sorry)
Recoil Plate – Type III w winchester
    ButtPlate – Winchester, Late

Note on the pictures: I used a 6.0 megapix camera with a tripod and “natural” color light bulbs (indirect). Believe it or not, I shot this in color. I thought the white background would contrast really good with the black of the original park.

Looks like it is well worth the price you paid.

Noticed the rear sight is drifted all the way to the left side. Wonder if that just happened to be that way, or if it was needed the last time it was fired. Be interesting to see how it shoots.
