Email from Brian Vick at CMP today confirmed the type 3 barrel band is a diamond d.
Side note: There was a 7295XXX listed on gunsamerica... someone bought it as I was trying to log in... bummer. I hope that doesn't turn out to be an altered M-2 receiver.
BQ, were any m-1 carbines accepted with serials in the 7.29 area??????

The WRA M2s start showing up in the 7.27 range. All the data I have on WRAs above the 7.28 range are M2s. However, there are records of WRA M2s that do not have the 2 overstamp.

Thanks Brian, I am learning stuff every day. The one I am referring to only had one picture - a side view - and did not show the receiver bridge. I got to thinking about it when I read it again "Owner says he got the rifle before the 1968 Gun Law." Only wanted $850 for it. Hope someone got a great deal and not the shaft.
I am still curious as to what the CMP is going to go for. The 7.26 two weeks ago went for $1,625. The 7.23 the OP is talking about is up to $2,560.
