Interesting National Postal Meter on another forum
There is a guy with an interesting NPM on another forum. It is reportedly a "WW2 vet's gun." It has type I band and Sights. The serial number, however, appears to overlap the bottom of the NPM stamp (which doesn't look quite right) on the rear of the receiver. Receiver has been blued and maybe polished. I invited the guy over here so we can look at it (actually you guys, as I am no expert!). Anyone have any thoughts???
Some M1 Carbine Questions
Looking at it closer, it appears it was polished down and maybe re-stamped, but what do I know!!!!

RM,
That entire back end looks like it has been turned down and re-stamped. I have no idea why someone would go to all that trouble, but you can see the marks extend from about 1/2 above the word "National" down to 3/8 of an inch below the serial number and from complete side to side. Also, if you look at the edge of the metal right at the edge of the letter "R" in "Meter" you can also see the amount for metal that has been removed. Add that to the unnatural finish and I am left with an big question of "WHY"?
They owner did not mention anything about Bavarian marks, but could this be a Bavarian based on color, refinish, professional re-stamping?
Just my two cents...

My guess would be one of the early reimports for China. Most heavly petinaed, with a lot of the marking worn down badly. Most had very lite import marking. But a lot still had most of their orig. early parts, just like they had when captured from ROKs. Just my guess, but I'm old enought to remember M1
Carbines from China. Before BIG BROTHER stopped them for our own GOOD, LOL.
