estate find, Walter p38.
last weekend, i purchased some 20 guns from an estate, mostly military stuff, and a couple commecial,
one of the gems is this AC 42 P 38, nice over all, everything but the barrel matches,
one note, it was assembled wrong, and had to be taken apart completely, with the slide still attached, boy that was fun, bore cleaned up nice.
im not very well versed on German
pistols, any thoughts would be helpful.

Its an earlier '42
nice piece, though the barrel doesnt match, but the slide and frame do. check the disconnector block inside the slide, see if that matches too. looks like it might be original finish as well. it looks like first variation AC 42, of a total 121K made, 21 were 1st variation.
all parts should have the e/359
Any import marks? what does the magazine have for markings.

all but the barrel, and magazine match. all the little parts are marked with 339. cept for one extra eagle on the slide, no import marks, even though the barrel is a replacement, it is marked 339 as well.
ivd is the only mark i can find on the magazine.

when i first picked this pistol up, i thought it was neet, and was going to hang on to it, and shoot it,
after handling it, feeling the heavy trigger, and even heavier double action.
not being a 9MM guy, i slept on it a while, and choose to put it on my table at the next gunshow, sell it to a guy that can love it and pet it.
iv had a few P38,s in the past, and i just never warmed up to them.
i do like the PPK,s , and the Broom handle pistols.
thanks for the imput. ill stick with the US pistols.

Magazine marking...

Could that be jvd on the magazine?
IIRC, jvd was the code for Erste Nordboehmische Metallwarenfabrik, Adolf Roessler, Niedereinsiedel, Sudetenland, a subcontractor supplier of magazines and other small parts.

Yes; only missed it by one year, four months, 8 days and three or so hours. Got an answer yet?
