Sounds like it was greased years ago and the grease has hardened. Tear the trigger group totally down, clean all parts, check for rust, and use a good gun oil to lube it. The safety is the last thing to come out so check where it slides on the Trigger Housing. This is usually the problem because it hangs up there if its dirty. Don't grease it use oil. A little oil goes a long way.
