Here is a close up of the butt markings.
It is marked:
III 941 over 1917
F-A over 6-42 over 47 inside a circle.
Near the top corner of the but is 1QR over 567 and S(or)COTC over MG over 371 the last three all crossed out.

Very nice. You are fortunate to have a complete, un-sportered version of the Mk III, even if it has been rendered DP-only.
Good luck in your search for a shootable version. Hope one turns up soon for you.

Note that the CHAMBER has been drilled but not the RECEIVER.
With a new barrel and some TLC, this one can be resurrected.
F - A in the circle with 6-42 (June 1942) and 47: Ferozepore Arsenal????? Indian for sure.
941 LB over 1917 is the rifle's serial number.
The other stamps are issue markings, some likely Canadian
.
Look UNDER the pistol-grip part of the stock for a little round stamp with CEF and a number.
You have a very nice toy, friend!

Thanks for the heads up on the CEF markings. There are a number of markings under the pistol grip including some inspection/proof markings. Unfortunately the rest have been defaced with lines and I cannot read them.

These are ownership marks of various units. 1QR could be Quebec Rifles or 171st. Battalion and 567 is the rack number of the rifle.
COTC is the Canadian
Officer Training Corps.
MG over 371 is and interesting one. There is a dent to the left of the M in MG. Is there a letter there? This is rifle rack number 371 of a Machine Gun Regiment.

This one, I think, NEEDS to be restored.
Look around for a takeoff barrel (should be 30.2") or for a long Rifle which has been Bubba'd near to death but still has a full-length tube. Removing and replacing the barrel on one of these is no real problem if you have a good barrel vise and a proper action wrench.
BTW, what looks like a swelling of the Barrel on your rifle is actually the forward extension of the RECEIVER. Don't try to take it off!!!!!!! The Mark III or Model of 1910 Ross actually had a forward step on the receiver for some reason; the actual barrel screws into this. Check your rifle closely to see what part I mean: the hole in your Chamber is immediately in front of this receiver step, directly into the chamber of the actual barrel.
Good luck with this one!
