Is there a 5.5 Mil SA Garand ??
I just bought what was advertised as a 5.5 mil SA receiver. After looking at some serial number listings I found, I see the that a receiver in that serial number block should be a HRA.
So, is there such an animal or not. I think I remember reading the there have been some serial number duplications between manufacturers ...It is not a big issue for me since I just need a nice, usable receiver. Just curious.
Thanks

I've personally seen 5.4 mil SAs.

PP,
It would be the first one. Maybe it's a misprint or a welded receiver. I would recheck that serial number, there are no known duplications there. It's a very clear HRA area.

As it turned out, it was a HRA. The seller was going on someone elses word without looking at it. Thanks for the replies.

I acquired an S.A. with # 5,440,XXX from the CMP
in 2006 with an SA 10/54 bbl. Really nice rifle with little wear. In 2007 I bought an HRA with # 5,538,XXX with a 9/54 HRA bbl. in comparable condition. Didn't even grasp the close "Born-on" dates until just now if the barrels are correct for the receivers.

Harrington & Richardson was assigned S/Ns ranging from 5,488,247 to 5,793,847 - but that does not mean there was a stamping error.
