The markings on the grip straps of the police Lugers were not unit markings, but represented the town or district they were assigned to.
The sear safety is above the side plate on your pistol. It is a spring that was attached to the left side of the receiver with a pin that blocks the sear bar when the side plate is removed. Your first picture shows the sear safety on the left side of the receiver, with a round head pin at the back, and extending up over the side plate.
Your pistol should have a hold open. The hold open is actuated by the follower button on the magazine. As the last round in the magazine is chambered, the follower button rides up against the hold open, raising it and locking the slide back when the pistol fires the last round.

Luger
As always, thanks. I am learning through your efforts and others.
I did read one article that these were issued to the Prussians and they did the mod on the sear. It was not required by what I read (only one article).
There was also a mod that disabled the safety? I saw one that had a cut out above the safety to do this. Can you spell "Really Dangerous"?
Thanks again!

The sear safety was ordered by the Prussian State Police in 1933, and virtually all police pistols were modified. The same order required a magazine safety, but it did not always work as it was suppose to, and almost all were later removed.

Help! Can someone please tell me the significance of the unit markings on this Luger. The upper has severe blood pitting on it, but the lower is in pretty good shape.
Thanks!
