Milsurp prices of yesteryear

I hear you, Back in 1958 I bought 2 British 303 enfields at a place in NJ (Two Guys) for $10.00 apiece. Sold them about 5 years ago for $ 100.00 each. What really hurts when I think back was about 1959, fellow I knew who worked for Frankford Arsonal in Phila Pa & did gun smithing out of his seller on the side had two Win Model 86`s. One was a 45-90 in mint condition $100.00 & the other was 45-70 in almost the same $75.00. Fairly lot of $ back then. Couldn`t scrape the $ up. Today they are worth in the $1000.00`s.

The good old days weren't that long ago. In 2001 I bought a matching No4MkIT complete with transit case, scope, mount, sling and scope can for the US equivilent of 760 dollars. Got it at one of the shows held at the range right outside of Chiliwack BC. The REAL good old days for some was during the ramp up to the long gun registry, people all over the lower mainland were practically GIVING away milsurps, and I was able to really beef up the collection.

In the late fifties my grandma would take a friend of mine and myself to a local army surplus store. We would go there frequently. After a few months we had all the gear we needed. Helmets, all the web gear, canteen, leggings, name it. We even had bayonets. We were only about 10 years old. The gear was dirt cheap and plentiful. I can still remember the aroma inside the surplus store. It was wonderful!! We played war in the park until we outgrew it. Then one day the draft and Vietnam came along. It was'nt fun anymore.
