af prefix
Hi, I have a no4 mk1 that has a very worn finish that i'm unsure of the factory and other info about it. The prefix is af af far as I can tell looks to be scribed or electopenciled in. Also it says 1943 with a 7 above it I assume it was refubished in 1947 is that corect?

Above the 1943 it says m4/47 the barrel is a five grove dated 1943 if that helps, thanks.

Sounds like BSA Shirley. The marking should be "M47C".

thanks that well could be with as much wear as it has on the socket, i only see 4 numbers after the prefix i always thought the first was the manufacturer.

Usually that's the case, but BSA used 4 digit s/ns (0001-9999), as well as 5 digit s/ns beginning with a '3' or '4'...usually (the occasional oddball has been showing up lately just to confuse the issue).
