model 1927
i have a Model 1927 Argentine
1911 style pistol made by Colt at their Hartford plant
model number is in the 92XX range
it has plastic grips (i do not think these are stock)
all matching serial numbers
finish is almost completely gone
it has some minor blemishes in the slide and frame, such as a scratch or two
rifling has some wear, it has been shot A LOT
i am not really worried too much about the value as i dont intend on selling it (i am not going to abuse it or refinish it either though.....)
i tried to upload a picture but my file size is too big, sorry about that, i might get around to doing it in a couple days if anyone would like....
can anyone tell me about this handgun?
thanks,
GB

here is a picture that i managed...
i took it for another purpose than posting here so i have a new mag in the photo...
and i got more artsy-farts than i would normally do...
i digitally altered the S# of the photo... paranoia set in, i was told to do that for internet posts by some fellers at another forum.... so i do....

i have read a little on here after i posted in regards to others that have had this model
my search ability must have been lacking before i posted, i apologies for that.
would it be a bad idea to get it refinished?
i have had folks tell me both ways, but most tell me its a bad idea....

Getting it refinished will destroy all collector value. Then it's just a representitive piece.

i was thinking the same thing,
a guy has been telling me over and over to refinish it
he works at a gunshop and i think he just wants to make a buck doing it....
thanks again....
i wasnt sure this gun really had any collector value from the way he was talking about it, so that is why i asked

your pistol is basically a colt commercial from 1927-1928.
the collector value of the commercial pistols doesnt seem to be as close to the collector value of the usgi pistols unless they are in pristine condition.
i have seen a 1927 sell for around 1100 with a finish close to yours, and i have seen one with a better finish sell for around 750.
they are good pistols to serve as a representation of the era, so i think refinishing yours is a toss-up. just be aware original finish will always beat out refinished.
if you do get it refinished, make sure it is done by a reputable shop where you will be happy with the end result and they wont ruin your pistol.
the correct grips for yours would be from the commercial era. checkered walnut with 28 lines of checkering between screw holes.
some of the parts might have a (RA) stamped on them like the hammer, MSH, and slide. I think there might be more, but cant recall.
here is mine (click the thumbnail for bigger pics)

the frame and slide are off by 8 digits so i was able to pick it up for a little over 500

what i find odd is that the slide, frame, and barrel all have the same serial number on it
923X
the slide has it on there twice, once on the top and once on the right side
Zaskar, yours looks to be the same as mine but i didnt see all those serial numbers on yours...
and, what does all those serial numbers mean? it seems to be excessive...
exactly the same as Painter777's gun (only his finish seems to have stuck to his....
https://www.milsurps.com/showthread.php?t=8031&page=1
also, i do not have have the "RA" (that i recall, i havent taken it down since i cleaned it last)
his also has the original grips...
but, i still dont know why it has so many serial numbers stamped all over it, it is as if Colt put their italic numbers on it and then Argentina
had it stamped in block numbers as well....
maybe i am wrong, i am assuming this

you assume correct
i was also lucky enough to find one without the extra ser# stamps or import marks
there is a lot of good info in that thread you linked.
i really dont think there is much more info you can find that hasnt already been posted in that thread

Mine only has a few parts with it, and the double diamond grips arent original. colt stopped using them when they went to the 1911-A1 configuration
